Ethical Theories
I. Introduction
Ethical theories provide an understanding in how a person might evaluate the value of human acts and its reasoning.
Theories provide frameworks of actions and foundation of beliefs. Theories should also recognized that there is a universal recognition of what is moral and acceptable. However, theories do not provide all answers to the issues of the human heart.

1) What are the limitations of ethical theory in governing the conduct of man?
2) Is there a relationships between good ethical theories and biblical doctrines? Explain.
3) Is there a Biblical Doctrine that supports an ethical theory? Explain.
1. For me it emphasis on the relationship between duty and the morality of human actions.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, because when academics talk about ethics, they are typically referring to decisions about right and wrong. While religion makes claims about cosmology, social behaviour, and the proper treatment of others, etc. ... Ethics are based on logic and reason rather than tradition or injunction.
3. Yes, for me, this advice is contained in the word “life verse,” which is a scripture verse from the Bible that speaks to my heart in and deep way. When I read this verse, hear if it says, or I think in my mind, it captures how you live your life, how you define your walk of faith, and what will lead to my decisions each day.
1) Ethical theory gives simple statements of doing what's right and avoid what's wrong but, it is not sufficient enough to address complex situations. One of its example is when you kill someone in a war, you won and recognized as hero but it won't change the fact that you kill and murder someone. The problem here is that, people will reason out and use many ethical theories as license just to support their choices and actions.
ReplyDelete2) Both of these approves what's right and disapproves what's wrong. Biblical doctrines taught us that our actions are determined to be right or wrong and sometimes it become the basis of what is moral and ethical.
3) Just as how theory of utilitarianism explained, where we choose our actions based on how their decisions will benefit the most people. In biblical doctrine, I remember when I was just starting to attend church, My teacher taught of the word 'JOY' in everything i do. It stands for Jesus, others and you that says, when I make decisions I should always think and put God and other people first than myself. Example in praying, in giving help.
1. It's limitate the action of man like you do the wrong because it's for good of your love one's or you do the wrong to save the world.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, because if you have a good character it is because your parents or Teachers have a knowledge about biblical doctrines that share's in you, and that's why sometimes there is a relationship between good ethical theories and biblical doctrines.
3. yes.. because in the book of Genesis, that in the first place God himself introduced ethics when he repeatedly declared his own work “good” in Genesis 1, and proceeded to give Adam and Eve responsibilities to fulfill in Gen. 2:19, and standards to live by in Gen. 2:15–17.
1. From my standpoint the limitations of ethical theory in governing the conduct of man is that there are people who will still violate and do not want to submit to such theories. It is the nature of a man to follow what his heart urges. He is free to choose to do what is right and acceptable to others and he is also free to break them if he desires to. Nonetheless, he must be also receptive to the consequences of his actions.
ReplyDelete2. Based on my observation, good ethical theories and Bible doctrines are closely related. Ethical theories are intended to improve everyone's life and make us treat other people well and it helps us to perform things that are meaningful and can benefit ourselves and other people. Ethical theories guide us in our daily lives. It can greatly assist us to act on a certain situation or make decisions accordingly. The teachings of the Bible also serve as a guide for how we should live in this world and how we should act or behave. It contributes greatly to our prosperity in life.
3. According to deontological ethics, one of the ethical theories, people should be treated with respect and dignity. This can be attributed to a Biblical doctrine found in 1 Pet. 2:17 which says “Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, and honor the king.” Dignity most typically pertains to the honor we bestow on others. The word honor interprets the Greek word τιμάω time, which means to show high regard for, honor, revere. ” We honor all people because they are made in the image of God (Gen. 1: 26-27). We honor those in authority (ie the king) because they are divinely appointed ministers of righteousness (Dan. 2:21; Rom. 13: 1-4) Above all, we are to honor God (1 Tim. 1:17; 6: 15-16).

1) What are the limitations of ethical theory in governing the conduct of man?
ReplyDeleteIf there's no commitment in an organization. If there's a code of ethics but there's no one uses it. And if a man just follows what he wants to do.

Yes, in the bible there's a lot of bible verses that teaches us a lot of things especially to be Ethical. For example is the ten commandments, which is the 1-4 commandments is our duty to God and the 5-10 commandments is our duty to our fellow man, on how we will going to treat and respect them ethically.
1. Ethical theory, means we do what we ought to do, doing what is right and wrong. We humans, although we already know what is right and wrong we still break or failed to comply the things that is moral and ethical because of our own desires.

ReplyDelete1) What are the limitations of ethical theory in governing the conduct of man?
-The limitations of it is we already know the right thing to do and what is wrong and the results of our choices.
2) Is there a relationships between good ethical theories and biblical doctrines? Explain.
- Yes of course,Both of them are related and we all know that the Bible is our authority which is the word of God. The bible taught us to live in righteousness and not to live with evilness. The concept of ethical theories are based on the biblical doctrines.
3) Is there a Biblical Doctrine that supports an ethical theory? Explain.
Yess!!
- Doing what is right or wrong have both consequences and it is for us to decide and act what we desires. But it is said in Romans that we are subjective to live with authority which is the word of God that teach us to do to do what is right so that we will be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Romans 13:1-7
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. ...
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
1. Limitation is something that makes everything balance, but when you say the limitation of ethical theory it is something people should look as important as their life. We couldn't avoid the fact that there will always be unjust treatment for all since the world is corrupted many will make their names clean and keep out their pressence in the issue of society, and still sin is a sin it will never justify because you do it for someone else.
ReplyDelete2. Ofcourse!, since these both sources are the conduct people should follow and not. And I believed the connection of these two will lead people into something that will make their mind more englightened in the issue of Bibleical doctrine and ethical theory.
3. Yes! based on 1 Pet. 2:17 “Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, and honor the king.” Dignity most typically pertains to the honor we bestow on others. The word honor interprets. Since the Ethical theory is the proper treatment for all, and the bivlical droctrine is supporting it the proper treatment for someone and all of us are valuable in the sight of God.
